Marijke’s singular teaching approach is informed by her own versatility as a pianist and as a person. She is particularly adept at sparking her pupils’ imaginations and kindling their passion and sense of adventure. Marijke encourages them to open up and be confident while making music. Through play she brings talent to fruition, in a safe space that is conducive to experimenting. Her pupils learn to read and play fluently, they improve their control and sharpen their ear for detail.

Marijke can draw on a vast array of exercises and teaching strategies to quickly and radically improve the pupil’s technique and motor skills. She teaches them to study and memorise scores efficiently. She also works on the psychological and emotional aspects of performing. She helps her students conquer their fear of failure and their stage fright by focusing on their resilience, improving their confidence and teaching them to remain calm under pressure. That is also why Marijke encourages her pupils to play in concerts and competitions, as this is one of the best ways to push past your limits and expand your musical, technical and mental abilities.
